Leg 2: 3K KAYAK
hosted by the Rogue Rowing Club
The race starts and finishes at the dock at the north end of Picnic Area B.
Leg 2 color is GREEN - follow green arrows. Keep buoys on your LEFT on the water.
You will not be able to drive directly to the dock after 8 a.m. on Saturday. You will be able to drive into the parking lot and portage your kayak to the launch area.
Follow safety considerations & directions from volunteers. Challenge will begin with kayaks in the water. Kayak across lake to Songer Point, dogleg RIGHT, hang a U-TURN at LARGE buoy & head back. Go around 1 more buoy in the lake, head back to far side dock. Volunteers will get your kayak off the dock. Run up to the timing chute, cross in front of timer and Leg 3 Cyclist will begin. (Come back & take your kayak to where you want it).
KEEP BUOYS ALWAYS ON YOUR LEFT SIDE.
Leg 1 Cyclists expected to finish between 8:20 and 9:00 a.m.
All Kayaks will start by 9:00 a.m. at the latest
Kayaks finish to hand off to Leg 3 Cyclists
All racers expected at the PRE-RACE MEETING at ScienceWorks at 7:30 a.m.
Notes for kayakers:
- Expect rough ground and asphalt, wear appropriate shoes for running to make connections with cyclists!
- Please bring kayaks to the lake starting at 4 p.m. Friday until dark, OR on Saturday morning any time before the race. You will not be able to drive directly to the dock after 8 a.m. on Saturday. You will be able to drive into the parking lot and portage your kayak to the launch area.
- You do not need to pay the $4 to enter Emigrant Lake Park: they will do a car count and charge it to Rogue Valley Farm to School. Donations to help defray the parking costs are welcome and can be made here or at the RVF2S booth at ScienceWorks on race day. Thank you.
The State of Oregon takes invasive species very seriously. Please rinse your kayak before arriving at the Lake unless you've been kayaking at the Lake! ARC Boathouse will offer a Rinsing Station for use after the kayak leg. Crafts ten feet long and over must have a State of Oregon Invasive Species Permit available for $5 at local Bi-Mart Stores.
